Box Office – The Business of Movies

2024.11.15 16:56 TitsOfClay Just had a combined therapy session with my estranged mother.

I (29M) just had a shitstorm of a therapy session with my mother (54F) and it was both relieving and damning.
Some context: My father, whom I haven’t spoken to in about 8 years, was a pretty bad guy. He was both emotionally and physically abusive toward me, and with my mother the threat of violence was always there but, as far as I know, he never acted on it. He stole from her constantly, couldn’t hold his liquor to save his life, cheated on her many times, and often threatened me with death – even as a 6yo.
It was a traumatic household, to say the least. He pulled guns on us both multiple times, broke our phones multiple times, and the number of times I had to lock myself in my bedroom because of blatant and incredibly scary threats tally up too many occasions to count.
That alone left me with incredibly complicated attachment issues in my adult life. In many ways, it made me scared of the world and deeply scared of intimacy. I never had the kind of dad a kid deserves, and I’ve accepted that. I haven’t spoken to him for years as a result and he’s had no idea where I live for a couple years too.
I’m still in contact with my mother. And for the last few years, as I’ve grown older and more established, our contact has steadily decreased. To the point where I see her about once every 6 months, for a lunch, despite the fact that we live about 45 minutes away from one another. As a result, she knows very little about who I am and what my values are. She couldn’t really tell you what I do for a living, couldn’t even name my partner.
And the lack of contact with her is not just due to the fact that she’s generally quite disliked, or that she’s quite plainly one of the rudest, meanest and most self-involved people I’ve ever known. It’s also because she left my dad three times, this man who made my life hell, and three times she got back together with him. Choosing herself and her need for his validation over my safety. I can’t stress enough how bad he was to me, and add to that the fact that I was an only child (at the time) with a pretty absent mother, it resulted in a deeply lonely and frighteneing childhood. I felt like a captive, and when I was 18 I finally wasn’t. It’s when I left and I haven’t looked back since.
But the reason the therapy session happened now is because my mother was recently committed to a mental health facility for an extended stay. Years of repression, workaholism, and the fact that she’s now not only being shunned by her siblings but may lose her job because of accusations of institutionalized bullying, have led her to finally have a breakdown of sorts.
I have very mixed feelings:
On the one hand, I honestly couldn’t give less of a shit. The feeling goes, “So what? You ensured my life was hellish for years, why tf should I care about you now?”
But on the other hand, my brother was born when I was 15 (as a ploy, I’m convinced, to keep my father around) and now that he’s 14, and is writing his 8th-grade finals, I’ve opted to stay at her place and take care of him while she’s away. So, I’m trying to be here for him, and it’s bringing up a ton of unresolved stuff for me. But also, I became a freelancer about a year ago, and work has dried up over the last 2 months. I’m usually able to sustain a pretty good life, but right now I’m flat broke and it’s going to take me at least a month to get back on my feet. So, it’s helpful having a free place to stay. And because of that kindness from her, I’ve agreed to the session and let it all hang out.
But the reason I’m making this post is the following:
I need advice on whether or not it’s time to call time-of-death on this relationship. My mother is a deeply selfish woman, who has always put her needs above my own. And she expects utter loyalty from me despite what she insured I went through as a kid. I honestly don’t know if this relationship is worth saving anymore. And when she gets out in a week, do I just need to leave and brave what’ll be a bracing challenge financially, but with the knowledge of finally being done with her?

2024.11.15 16:54 CanIPetYourDog_1029 Pumping to get more sleep?

I’m a first time parent, baby is just 8 days old, and I’ve been exclusively breastfeeding so far. I’ve been extremely lucky to have a benefit through my job that covers an overnight doula, and we’re taking advantage of that a couple nights per week.
To optimize my ability to sleep when the doula is here, she recommended pumping so she didn’t have to wake me up as often when she’s here. Is it way too soon to try to pump one bottle/day? All the lactation specialists seemed to say wait a month until my supply is established.
I know I would still have to wake up every 3 hours overnight to feed/pump but the pumping session would be easier on me than a 45 min feed for me to go back to bed when the doula is here. Curious what everyone else would do to try to get the most out of that extra overnight help. Thank you!!

2024.11.15 16:54 Jon2qc ABYG kung hindi ko sinunod yung utos ng airline staff to cut the line sa immigration and sa security BECAUSE the delay was caused by that same airline personnel

I purposely let a month pass before posting here as the people concerned may be reading this. Just a short background about myself, mejo madalas ako lumipad for work and in fact, I belong to the highest tier in the One World Airline Alliance, the alliance which Cathay Pacific belongs to. Recently, I travelled to Osaka for work and I was holding a business class ticket for the said airline. My flight was at 6pm but it was only past 1pm. Maaga ako kasi I knew from experience na pag lampas ng 2pm, sobrang haba na ng pila sa immigration and security. So after a mejo tearful goodbyes to family who I wont see for a few months, I walked up to the check in counters of Cathay (which by the way, nasa first lane na sila instead of dati na nasa dulo). At the entry lane, I was asked to check in sa economy class. I had no issues with it kasi wala pang tao. So after a routinary check in, eto na.
The guy, a Cathay personnel, claimed na namumula ang mata ko and it seemed daw na may sore eyes ako. Parang ako, I didnt bother with it kasi obviously I would not endanger the crew or my fellow passengers with an infectious ailment. So i said, no.. this isnt sore eyes, mejo nagkaiyakan lang… pero no, he said. I have your boarding pass and your passport, please come with me to the Bureau of Quarantine. Parang ako, what? Are you crazy? Sobrang layo ng bureau of quarantine from here and more than anything, I was shocked. I am a business class passenger and belong to the Emerald Tier.. you cannot single me out just because you feel I have sore eyes. And if you look at the people on the far end, you would see that they are crying and have reddish eyes. You cannot say that it comes from having sore eyes. Pero next thing I know, I was being escorted to the Bureau of Quarantine with SECURITY and the Cathay personnel. — just like a common criminal. I told them one thing though, hindi ako aabot sa boarding if we go through this. Pero he was adamant and stupid about it so wala, tuloy pa rin kami sa bureau.
Syempre, nag kick in yung pagiging abogado ko. I asked for names, and I asked for the head of the team during the time. And while waiting for the doctor sa quarantine, I vowed to make the life of the personnel a living hell. And true enough, when the doctor came to see me, ang una nyang tanong was.. saan ang supposedly may sore eyes na mata.. parang ako… patay kayo sa akin.
That whole exercise of futility, took more than two hours. So I was checking in at around 1:10pm pero I only got to fall in line sa immigration at around 330pm. And true to my word, boarding ng 5:15 and I was still in line sa immigration. AT around 5pm, that same personnel came up to me and said, kung pwede ba daw makiusap ako at sumingit sa linya.. right there and then, sinabihan ko syang.. FuXX you!!! At 5:15pm, he approached me again and said, can I look at your ticket. and once again, FuXX you!! you are not to touch any part of my belongings and kung ako syo, magalsa balutan ka na, dahil sisiguraduhin kong matatanggal ka sa pagiging check in personnel. Oh ayan.. protocol mo mukha mo.” Then at 6:15 lapit uli sya sa akin and said, sir, tinatawag na kayo ng piloto.. sinagot ko sya na, “sabihin mo nandito ako nakapila kasi ang mga katulad mong bobo ang nagpatagal sa akin!” I was so livid that I was purposely being belligerent.
Lo and behold, I was able to board the plane at 7:30. Na delay yung flight dahil sa akin and when the crew asked why I was late, I just said “Eric xxxxx” the name of the personnel. Now after a month of contemplating, ABYG in this case? Should I pursue a formal complaint?

2024.11.15 16:46 aflustered_aflame Does anyone else suffer from folds(??) and if so is it the boobs or the bra at fault?

Hi, I am an unfathomably inexperienced adult. I was never taught a single thing about bras or breasts and I have only ever owned one bra; a wireless thing my mom bought for me on a whim that is more of a loose tube top than anything with form. I am far too sheepish and impoverished to try to buy any more with the current knowledge level I have (nil). The calculator says 36H but I do have incredibly saggy/soft tissue which I have heard is important. I also may be measuring wrong (Um, do you count the “air space” if your breasts are far apart, or do you squish them together slightly…?) Standing bust is 45 and underbust is 36, at the least.
I go braless 24/7 and I wish to fix that, but I fear if I went to a…. bra store…? my complete ignorance would surely get me killed. Or a force field would come up at the doorway reading “level 5 boobs required” and I wouldn’t even be let in. Or, the worst case of them all, I would get flustered and feel pressured to waste $70 on a bra that doesn’t fit without having the sense or vocabulary to properly identify or articulate any of my issues; the titular (ha) bra of failure staring at me from the dark recesses of my closet with a pointed, cruel judgement. You can see why I have been putting this off for so long.
When I do wear my bra, it “folds” my breasts at the top like some kind of weird top-cleavage. I also never get any actual cleavage from them, they just double up over themselves and squish out to the sides?? I have tried to imitate a bra by maneuvering the tissue with my hands in various ways but the fold always appears if I want my breasts to sit any higher than my stomach. And when I try to push them closer together to get cleavage, either nothing happens, or a strange third fold appears to block the way in the middle. After weeks of scouring the internet’s most knowledgeable breast forums, and anywhere else I could think of that would house a variety of photos of large chests to use for reference, I cannot find a single example of someone else with this folding problem; only little wrinkles, stretch marks, or quadboob/pooling over top of the bra. This, on the other hand, is like exactly a fat fold you may find on the waist or stomach, and it happens where my breast tissue meets the rest of my chest.
The main point: is this a factor of the innate shape/qualities of my breasts or does the fault lie in how they’re being housed? Has anyone any information on what brands/shapes of bras prevent or accentuate this to point me in the right direction? May I not be so alone in the universe with these eccentric tit-ssues? I thank you dearly for your help and for parsing my flustered rambles in the first place.
Signed, the Embarrassed Hermit (The embarebreast’d her-tit? Oh God, no)

2024.11.15 16:45 szoguner How i know the price will rise, but i dont care.

I, again wanted to transfer my shares from ing diba (germany) to ibkr.
20 shares, nothing big.
I did the request a while back, 22.10.24 is when i started and sent the form from ibkr to my bank.
My shares dissapeared from by bank broker account, on the 06.11.24.
Normal. Nothing unusual.
They, did not arrive at ibkr, yet.
I contacted both, ibkr and my broker. Both, cannot say where the shares are.
They usually arrived on the same day they dissapeared at my bank, its not my first transfer that way.
Its the first that takes soooo long, and i have confirmation from them they are in the talks with each other trying to figure it out. The shares are for now in nirvana and not my account.
Internalizing issues? Not willing to pay for shares i bought cheaper months ago? No shares there?
Dunno, dont care, waiting for the battle of 45.
Remember 45? I remember

2024.11.15 16:33 jsds007x Ceramic vs Regular Tint – A Deep Dive from a Car Enthusiast’s Perspective

Prestito personale

Delibera veloce

Hey, Long-time car enthusiast here (15+ years) and I’ve gone through multiple tint installations on various vehicles, from my first beater to my current daily driver. I’ve noticed a lot of confusion and misinformation about window tinting, especially regarding ceramic vs regular tints. After my recent experience with both types, I thought I’d share a comprehensive comparison that might help others make an informed decision. 🤔
Window tinting has come a long way since its inception in the 1960s. What started as a simple dyed film application has evolved into sophisticated technology incorporating advanced materials and manufacturing processes.
Early Days:

  • Basic dyed films
  • Limited heat rejection
  • Frequent bubbling and peeling
  • Purple discoloration common

Modern Era:

  • Advanced materials (metallic, ceramic)
  • Sophisticated manufacturing
  • Multiple layer construction
  • Nano-technology integration

Regular tint has been the go-to option for decades, and I started my tinting journey with it on my first car (2010 Honda Civic).
My Experience with Regular Tint:
Installation Process:

  • Cost: $250 for full car (2015)
  • Installation time: 3 hours
  • Immediate results visible

Performance Over Time:

  • Started showing signs of wear after 18 months
  • Bubbling appeared around defroster lines
  • Slight purple hue developed after 2 years
  • Had to replace rear window tint after 3 years

Advantages:

  • Budget-friendly initial cost
  • Wide availability
  • Quick installation process
  • Various shade options
  • Easy to find installers

Disadvantages:

Sconto crediti fiscali

Finanziamenti e contributi

  • Limited heat rejection
  • Noticeable signal interference
  • Poor longevity
  • Frequent maintenance needed
  • Color stability issues

After my mixed experience with regular tint, I decided to invest in ceramic tint for my 2020 Toyota Camry. The difference was remarkable!
My Ceramic Tint Journey:
Installation Experience:

  • Cost: $750 for full car (2020)
  • Installation time: 4 hours
  • Professional installer used specific tools
  • Required 48-hour curing period

Performance Results:

  • Immediate temperature difference
  • Zero signal interference
  • Crystal clear visibility
  • No color changes after 3 years
  • Superior glare reduction

Advantages:

  • Exceptional heat rejection
  • Superior UV protection
  • Better clarity
  • Longer lifespan
  • No signal interference
  • Scratch resistant
  • Better night visibility

Disadvantages:

  • Higher upfront cost
  • Limited color options
  • Requires experienced installers
  • Longer installation time
  • May need appointment weeks in advance
Feature Ceramic Tint Regular Tint
Initial Cost $600-1000 $150-300
Heat Rejection 80-95% 30-50%
UV Protection 99% 45-50%
Lifespan 10+ years 2-5 years
Signal Interference None Moderate-High
Color Stability Excellent Poor
Installation Time 4-5 hours 2-3 hours
Warranty Lifetime 1-3 years
Night Visibility Excellent Good-Fair
Scratch Resistance High Low

I conducted some personal tests using an infrared thermometer:
Regular Tint (Summer 2015):

  • Outside temperature: 95°F
  • Interior temperature after 1 hour parking: 135°F
  • Dashboard temperature: 150°F

Ceramic Tint (Summer 2020):

  • Outside temperature: 95°F
  • Interior temperature after 1 hour parking: 115°F
  • Dashboard temperature: 125°F

Regular Tint Scenario (10 years):

Finanziamenti personali e aziendali

Prestiti immediati

  • Initial installation: $250
  • First replacement (Year 3): $250
  • Second replacement (Year 6): $275
  • Third replacement (Year 9): $300
  • Total 10-year cost: $1,075

Ceramic Tint Scenario (10 years):

  • Initial installation: $750
  • No replacements needed
  • Total 10-year cost: $750

Based on my experience and conversations with multiple installers:

  1. Research Your Installer:
    • Check reviews
    • Ask for certifications
    • View previous work
    • Verify warranty terms
  2. Pre-Installation Preparation:
    • Clean car thoroughly
    • Remove all debris
    • Plan for 24-48 hours no washing
    • Choose a dust-free environment
  3. Post-Installation Care:
    • Wait 3-7 days before washing
    • Avoid rolling windows down
    • Clean with approved products
    • Report any issues immediately

Your location should influence your choice:
Hot Climates (Like Arizona, Texas):

  • Ceramic tint highly recommended
  • Higher heat rejection crucial
  • UV protection important
  • Worth the extra cost

Moderate Climates:

  • Regular tint might suffice
  • Cost-benefit ratio different
  • Consider seasonal changes
  • Personal preference matters

After consulting with several professional installers and based on my experience:
Choose Regular Tint If:

  • Budget is primary concern
  • Short-term vehicle ownership
  • Moderate climate location
  • Frequent vehicle changes

Choose Ceramic Tint If:

  • Long-term investment planned
  • Hot climate residence
  • Value premium quality
  • Heavy daily usage

After experiencing both options extensively, ceramic tint is clearly superior in terms of performance and long-term value. While the initial cost might be shocking, the benefits and longevity make it a worthy investment.
Edit 1: Wow! This blew up overnight! Thanks for all the awards and comments!
Edit 2: Several people asked about specific brands – I’ll share my experiences in the comments.
Edit 3: For those asking about DIY installation – I strongly recommend against it for ceramic tint. The material is less forgiving and requires professional expertise.
Remember, whichever option you choose, professional installation is crucial for optimal results and longevity. Don’t cheap out on something that affects both your comfort and vehicle value! 🚗

2024.11.15 16:25 Remarkable-Cost8040 Need advice

I’ve been riding for about 1-2 months now (recently learned and self taught) and I’ve had a few accidents. Not fun but I learned a lot from them. I’m gonna list some the ways I fell and if someone can tell me other like common ways to falling or the dos and don’ts when it comes to riding I’d appreciate it because there is so much I don’t know/understand.

  1. Curbs – I’ve fallen twice due to curbs. Once due to being almost parallel to the curb (it was really small which is why I thought I could go up it) and once trying to go up one at around a 45 degree angle. My wheel like locked up both those times. I don’t know if this is like a regular thing or my wheel just can’t do curbs like that.
  2. Steer wobble – Both times were stupid. I think I just braked too hard accidentally. First time I was trying to practice no hands and when I went back to grab the handles and brake I think I probably grabbed too much rear brake and it caused me to go into like a crazy wobble eventually leading to my fall. The other time was when I got distracted (dumb ik) and saw myself heading into a railing so I dodged the railing and braked, I don’t really know if I went into a wobble or not I just know I went down.

I’ve reflected on all these falls and I believe I know how to avoid it happening again. I know I’ve probably fallen more than most people but it is what it is. I’m learning so that’s that but I don’t want to keep damaging my bike and getting hurt so any advice or like warnings would be awesome!

2024.11.15 16:19 MaXuSReLaXuS Neither my friends or I are finding any 22LR rounds since the 1.26 update…

Carta di credito con fido

Procedura celere

I’m only referring to Official Servers, to be clear.
So I’ve been playing pretty much every day since a couple of months or so before the 1.26 update and even if I definitely ran out of 22’s frequently I would still find boxes of 22LR with enough of a frequency that it made sense to carry the MKII. But, god damn have they fucked up the overall occurrence the spawn of both loose rounds as well as boxes of them. And this is not just me experiencing this the same thing is true for the 3 friends that I play with.
I’ve found ONE, I shit you not ONE fucking box of 22’s since the frostline release a month ago and one of my friends have had the great fortune of finding ONE box too a couple of weeks ago. And I’ve played every damn day with only a few exceptions since the update.
Now, considering they’ve made the inventory so much smaller without increasing the uses of gun cleaning kits in combination with making 22LR orders of magnitude more rare than 7.62×39, 7.62x54R, 9×19, 9×39…come to think of it they’re actually more rare than literally every other round used in the game, it really begs the question…WHY!? If I have to use a .45, 380 or 9mm pistol with suppressor for Z’s well shit at least give more fucking uses of the suppressor!
The 22LR round is apparently one of the most commonly sold rounds in the entire world so, please…can someone enlighten me as to how it makes sense to make it by far the most rare round in the game?
I mean if it is intentional…why, what’s the point? Such dumb thing to limit while I can find more 7.62xWhatever than I can ever use. I fucking hate it, it’s not at all balancing in an actually meaningful way as all it does is frustrate for no god damn reason at all.
Over and out! 🫶✌️🖖👋

2024.11.15 16:18 im_dead_sirius My intrepid survivor wishes to measure Lengths

Buildings and such. Other things, as it strikes me.
Lacking a tape measure or meter stick, my snack-less predator magnet must use an object of fairly standard real world length, yet ideally one that is light weight, and for which multiples can easily be found. Ideally, these measuring tools can be laid along narrow ledges/lines, and will lay fairly close to touching end to end.
I carefully toyed with hatchets, assigning a realistic length of 40 cm, as the handy hackers can vary quite a bit. I considered flares, but they’re too short, and measuring something like a building would take a lot of flares, or a lot of leap frogging a set of three of them.
So anything flare length is kinda out. They would do in a pinch, but unfortunately, I am not playing in a pinch, but a global cataclysm, though luckily, not at the scale of the aftermath of a US election. One must keep perspective and count one’s blessings.
Despite sticks and cattail heads also making nice compasses, I’m looking for something else, something longer, but perhaps not as long as the wait for another Game of Thrones book.
Arrows. Or more ideally (and easier to acquire), arrow shafts. They’re harder to lose, and impossible to break.
I’ve got three pristine simple arrows stashed in the car parked outside the train station, and four birch saplings. Where is the nearest, least wolfy work bench? The shack at the far end of the mining pit, isn’t it? Alas no, I end up going all the way to the ZoC concentrator and back to the train station. I should have went to Junker’s Paddock, perhaps.
Now it seems to me that the arrows look a bit Skywalker-ish compared to real world arrows, but they fit my other criteria. To find the length, I’m going to need to compare them to something I can verify in the real world. Ideally, several things.
Looking around, I see a few ideas. The width of an exterior door, the total length of my frying pan, handle included, width/length of a vehicle, and the diameter of a tire. I’ll measure my in game hatchet too, though I don’t have one in real life, and it wouldn’t matter, they really vary.
The width of a door should be about 1 meter, and I get a measure of about 1.3 arrow shafts. So about 0.75 meters per shaft… 75 cm. I would rather expect arrows for an adult size self bow to be closer to 100 cm, perhaps longer.
The frying pan is maybe 3/4 of a shaft’s length, or a bit over half a meter. In the real world, my two cast iron frying pans are 40 and 43 centimeters. Game pan is kinda big, but in spitting distance of that. The hatchets seem a bit bigger than my estimate, perhaps 45 centimeters.
Across the back of one of the trucks is 2.5 shafts, or a little under 1.9 meters, but we kinda knew the vehicles are a bit under scale. The tires are on the big side for real life, 0.8 meters… 80 cm. The cars use the same game model, same scale.
The Curator’s Rifle is a full two arrow lengths. I’m satisfied with my estimate of the arrow shaft length.
Finally, it is time to measure the building. I get a length of 15 shafts, and a width of almost 9 shafts, or 11.25 meters by 6.5 meters. Its not very big, but seems generous, considering its remote location. It’s definitely my favourite shelter, and I anxiously wait for customization features.

2024.11.15 16:18 Mindless-Tomorrow-79 What next ?

Hi all, looking for some advice and guidance, and to maybe squash any curiosity. I’m early thirty’s married, 3 kids. own home (mortgaged).
I’ve seen some insane ( by my standards) salaries on this post and it’s got me thinking I need to switch careers. I’ve been in the same trade for 11 years and worked my way up to the head of my business. I’m earning around £120,000 a year, however I’m doing 50 hour weeks Monday- Friday, around a 45 minute commute, my role has borderline no flexibility, no work from home.
What type of industries would people say are good to look at as a change, I would describe my position as senio high level. The only next step is director, and I have high level management, financial forecasting and operational management experience to name a few.
Any insights would be great.
TIA

2024.11.15 16:12 XGoldenSpartanX Can they please reduce timers??

Anybody else irritated when players decide to wait out the timer in response to knowing they are going to lose? This is extremely frustrating. 45+ second timers every time it’s their turn gets really old. At least 30% of matches I have played have been this way.

2024.11.15 16:06 Full_Cauliflower_706 I took a shortcut trough the woods, never again…

I Took a Shortcut Through the Woods… Never Again
It was supposed to be a quick walk home. I’d had a long day at work, missed the last bus, and it was nearly midnight. The streets were empty, and an eerie mist clung to the sidewalks. My apartment was a good 45-minute walk away, and my feet were already aching. Then I remembered an old path through the woods that cut my journey in half. I hadn’t taken it in years, but how hard could it be?
I’d heard rumors about those woods when I was younger—stories from kids at school claiming they’d seen “something” out there. But back then, it was mostly an excuse to dare each other into doing something reckless. I took a deep breath, shaking off a twinge of unease, and stepped into the forest.
At first, it was fine. The crunch of leaves underfoot, the cool night air, and the moonlight filtering through the branches made the woods seem almost peaceful. But that peace didn’t last. About ten minutes in, the forest fell silent. The usual sounds of crickets, rustling leaves, and distant owl calls just… stopped. It was as if the whole forest was holding its breath, listening.
I shrugged it off, picking up my pace. My phone’s flashlight barely pierced the thick darkness, casting strange, twisting shadows. I kept trying to reassure myself it was just my imagination. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was watching me.
I’d been walking for maybe twenty minutes when I started to realize the path wasn’t familiar anymore. It seemed longer, winding in a way it hadn’t before, almost like it was leading me deeper into the forest. I checked my phone for GPS, but of course, there was no signal. Annoyed, I kept going, rationalizing that it had to lead somewhere.
That’s when I heard the footsteps.
They weren’t loud, but they were unmistakable. Soft, almost rhythmic, they matched my pace, stopping every time I stopped. My heart raced as I whipped my flashlight around, but saw nothing beyond the trees. Trying to shake off the chill creeping down my spine, I told myself it was probably a deer or some small animal.
But the footsteps resumed, louder this time, almost purposeful. They were closer, growing in volume, and somehow… wrong, like someone dragging their feet on purpose.
Panicking, I picked up my pace, but so did the footsteps. I broke into a run, my breath coming in short gasps, but the footsteps followed, matching my speed. I could hear something breathing behind me, harsh and guttural, as though it were inches away. I dared to glance back, and in that split second, I saw it.
A figure—pale, distorted, with limbs too long and skin that looked stretched, almost waxy. Its mouth was wide, too wide, stretched in an impossible grin that showed rows of crooked, jagged teeth. Its eyes were dark, hollow, yet glinted with a sickening awareness. It tilted its head, as if studying me, and then it began to laugh—a low, rattling sound that sent chills through my bones.
I pushed myself faster, heart hammering, lungs burning. The creature didn’t chase in a traditional sense. Instead, it moved in a jerking, staggering way, but no matter how fast I ran, it seemed to be right behind me.
I tripped over a tree root, sprawling forward and hitting the ground hard. I scrambled up, looking around frantically for the creature, but there was nothing—just the dense, suffocating darkness.
I forced myself back onto the path, stumbling as I ran. Ahead, through the trees, I saw a faint light—a road, maybe, or a clearing. I sprinted toward it with every bit of strength I had left, bursting out of the forest and onto a deserted road. I kept running until I reached a streetlight and finally dared to stop and look back.
The creature stood at the edge of the trees, its head tilted at an unnatural angle, watching me. I could see it more clearly now. Its skin was pale and mottled, stretched so tight it looked ready to tear, and its limbs seemed too thin, bending in ways that defied anatomy. Then it did something that haunts me to this day—it lifted one of its elongated arms and waved.
I stumbled backward, nearly tripping as I turned and ran the rest of the way home, not stopping until I’d locked the door and bolted every window. I didn’t sleep that night, sitting with every light on, watching the windows for any sign of that creature.
It’s been weeks now, and I’ve done everything I can to forget that night. But every time I close my eyes, I see it staring back at me, that horrible grin on its face. And every night, just as I’m about to drift off, I hear footsteps outside my window, moving slowly… matching the beat of my racing heart.
Sometimes, if I listen closely enough, I think I can even hear it laugh.

2024.11.15 16:03 frozenprecum I’m Young and Already Burnt Out

I apologize for anything that doesn’t make sense because I haven’t slept yet.
I am 24 years old, and I’ve quit my first big girl office job due to many work complications and poor management, or honestly, lack thereof, and I’ve had so many breakdowns in the late hours of night because I legitimately did not want to clock in the morning. For context, this is a dental office.
Here are some of the things I had to deal with while working here:

  • I was the only one working in the office. We had no office manager, no in-person insurance coordinator, it was just me. My boss/main dentist kept trying to coerce me into doing insurance coordinator duties while I was a patient care coordinator, but I’d refuse, and she’d try to guilt trip me by saying “But I don’t give you that many things to do.”
  • Narcissistic secondary dentist who USED to own this practice, but he needs to come to terms that he absolutely has to retire for the sake of the employees AND patients. Let me preface by saying that he was an absolutely great dentist back in the day, but at his old age, he’s still trying to relive his glory days and ends up misdiagnosing patients and running the schedule 1 or 2 hours late. He has yelled at our only hygienist in front of the patients several times in verbatim, “I’VE BEEN A DENTIST FOR 40 YEARS, AND YOU’RE A NEW GRAD! YOU DON’T KNOW ANYTHING!”, and he’ll say this while actively poking the patient’s gums with the probe. I also have my own problems with him as well. This dentist only comes in once a week, and the day before, he called the office to see which patient has requested him, and no one has for this specific day. However, he could not believe it, and told me to read off the patients in the hygiene side, and when I read off a specific patient’s name, he starts grilling me because that’s apparently his patient, despite the patient not requesting this doctor. He grills me for a good 5-10 minutes before I eventually muster up the courage to tell him “I get it” and hang up the phone, so I could answer other people’s calls because mind you, I am the Only Person in this office. He continues to leave messages on the phone, and eventually comes in. I do not want to go any further than that, but I will say he has trapped me in a room to “confront me” about my behavior, and my “very lovely” boss witnessed it, but keeps her mouth shut. No there was no touching involved besides this 6 foot something ex-marine man going out of his way to keep me from escaping until I had to literally force my way out.
  • My boss/main dentist feels incredibly entitled towards all of her employees’ time simply because she’s paying us. She would run the office way past office hours, I am talking about us closing at 5:00 pm, but our last patient doesn’t leave until 6:45 pm, and it’s usually not because she’s working very hard to get things right, it’s because she’s a chatterbox who doesn’t look at the clock, and then she gets mad that the office is empty when it’s time to checkout the patient.

I can list even more things that happened in the office, but those three is what I feel like would give anyone reading this an idea of how much of a hellhole this office was.
I have quit back in the summer, and being unemployed for this long makes me feel like a burden. Thankfully, I live with family, so I am not struggling financially. However, ever since working in this office, it’s hard for me to overcome the anxiety of entering back into the work force. It doesn’t help that a lot of my peers are feeling just as horrible due to their own work environments as well.
Have any of you guys dealt with something like this? What have you done to overcome it? Genuinely, I feel like I’ve hit a mental wall. Anything positive would be nice.

2024.11.15 15:49 Bragro Osterinsel: Ausflüge, teure Ausflüge, Mietwagen, Guide, Guidepflicht notwendig? Oktober 2024

No way!
MINDESTDAUER OSTERINSEL AUFENTHALT Die gute Nachricht. Man könnte alles in 2 Tagen machen.

2024.11.15 15:45 ThrowingDoots When someone is helping you move, be prepared!

I’m going to preface this with you should never be afraid to ask for help. I take pride in helping out when I can, sometimes to a fault, but if someone asks I try to accommodate as best I can with a smile and calming energy, albeit a bad back and sometimes a sourpuss.
A friend that I met a few months ago was in a tough situation and needed to vacate their apartment. They had two weeks to find a new place, and kept me updated casually as friends do. I own a small family restaurant, so I would feed them, listen, and give them a neutral space to tackle what they needed to.
On Monday, they told me they found a space but they weren’t sure about it and wanted a fresh set of eyes, so I agreed to drive them over and be a third party with an honest opinion. I’m everyone’s logical “get it done” friend, so I told them my one day off a week is Tuesday, and I’d go with them tomorrow and help them make the choice.
When I arrived to pick them up the next day, they then said they now had a “few” places to look at with me, and without asking assumed I would drive them all around the city. I was annoyed, but knew she was down to two days to move, so I didn’t detest.
We look at the first place, and it’s only for ONE WEEK. I shook my head like “what are you going to do in a week?” and she had no answer. She said she’d probably get him to extend it to a month, which was absolutely not the vibe I was picking up, and figure it out then. I told her I’m not available to move her multiple times in a month, so we need to keep looking unless she has a wealth of hands to help her.
So I said let’s go to place number 2. We get there, only for me to learn that she had ALREADY SIGNED A 1 YEAR LEASE at this place. She started to cry when she heard this, but I don’t understand how you could sign something and not be aware- she thought she’d sign the lease but that she still had the option to say no and was adamant that the person told her that. I know this not to be true because it was a government funded dorm, and their rules are stricter than a low-level slumlord. At this point the dorm staff was only talking to me because she knew my friend wasn’t getting it, which now made me the adult in the room and super uncomfortable. I convince her to live at HER NEW APARTMENT and the next day is moving day, and I told her I was working a 9 hour day but I would help for a couple hours after.
I arrive at the time she requested myself and her two other friends to arrive on moving day and she’s nowhere to be found. I called, texted, and knocked but no response. After waiting a half hour I start to pull off when I see her walking up the street, asking “were you about to leave?” I responded pretty angrily, now I’m getting irreparably annoyed with her, but pulled back around and went inside. Neither of her other friends were there.
When I got in her apartment I saw she had NOTHING packed but one box of magazines she was giving away. She starts talking about herself and her plans for donations and I cut her off, asking what needs to go and reiterating that I worked all day and was on a time schedule. She seemed annoyed that I was rushing her, and starting pointing at things I can take. Which coincidentally were the heaviest at about 40-50lbs each.
I load up her items into my car and ask where her other people were, telling her I was going to head to the new place and drop it off and come back for one more load. She said they were on their way and would be there by the time I got back, so I take off.
Unload her beastly bins and suitcases into the new apartment lobby, and am about to head back when she texts me that one of her friends arrived and they’re loading up her car now. Cool! We’re cruising. I’m not doing this alone, hell yeah!
It took me about 45 minutes to get back to her old apartment in rush hour traffic, and when I go in they’re listening to music and eating, neither moving nor packing. I ask how much they’ve loaded already and they said nothing. WHAT?
I angrily grab a few boxes, hook the bed on top of her friend’s car, and tell her I’m heading back to the new place to unload. She tells me that someone is waiting to help me carry all of it up to her apartment from the lobby, then told me when I come back for round 3 it will be easy. Mind you, she hasn’t lifted more than a box or two this entire time, and I had moved 2/3 of her stuff alone. And was not enthused but glad someone would be helping me move it out of the lobby.
I get to the new place and there’s no one there. So I neatly stack the rest of her heavy shit in the lobby and peel out, texting her I had other things to do. Good luck.
Does this make me a jerk? Maybe. But when you ask for help, it is not my responsibility to run your life or watch you dilly dally and burn incense to clear the vibe while I’m dragging your shit across the city. I honestly am shocked someone was just so BAD at living and inconsiderate of the friend with very little time and a bad back who’s still getting this done for you. Color me FLABBERGASTED.
Wild. Don’t be that person. Thanks for coming to my TEDtalk

Genre: RTS / Strategy – Online + Offline
Orientation: Portrait
Required Attention: Full
tl;dr review by Pixel Explorer:
Firefight is a detailed and immersive World War II real-time strategy game with destructible maps, a physics engine for vehicles, and complex units AI. It’s inspired by the PC game Close Combat.
The game puts us in command of up to 16 units, and our objective is to fight through enemy lines to capture their headquarters. Our units interact dynamically with the environment, taking cover in buildings, forests, or behind walls, while the map itself is completely destructible.
Unlike most RTS games, Firefight strips away base-building and resource gathering, allowing us to focus entirely on battlefield tactics across multiple 30-45 minute missions.
What truly sets Firefight apart is its meticulous attention to detail. Every unit has a name, rank, health status, and limited ammo. In addition, wounded soldiers need medical attention, and severely injured units are left behind to either die or make a desperate attempt to escape the battlefield.
Similarly, armored units behave realistically thanks to a physics engine, bullets ricochet off sloped surfaces which can injure our soldiers, and inexperienced units hesitate under fire and are less accurate. These intricacies combine to deliver a deeply immersive and authentic wargaming experience.
The UI is intuitive and well-designed, but the game is best enjoyed on phones with large screens.
The game features customizable battles and real-time PvP multiplayer. It’s even supported by an active modding community that expands its content. The game is also still actively updated.
Firefight costs $9.99 on Android, with two $9.99 DLC for more campaigns. Personally, I find the additional content to be well worth the investment.
It’s a unique wargaming experience and I highly recommend it to strategy wargame fans who appreciate attention to detail and a more relaxed pace where strategic thinking takes priority.

Monolith [Total Game Size: 2.59 GB] ($7.99)

Genre: Adventure / Point ‘n Click – Offline
Orientation: Landscape
Required Attention: Some
tl;dr review by Alex Sem:
Monolith is a captivating point-and-click adventure with nice visuals, an immersive and mysterious sci-fi atmosphere, and an intriguing storyline that kept me engaged till the very end.
We play as a space explorer who crash-lands on a barren planet, wakes up in a cryo-pod with no memory of the past, and discovers that her partner is missing without a trace. As we explore the planet, we stumble upon the remains of a once-functional mining outpost, where we seem to have lived and worked for some time.
Things get interesting when we learn about the unfortunate accident that befell the colony that used to live here. It seems all inhabitants, including our family, were forced to leave in a hurry. And then we finally meet the cause of the accident – a mysterious woman wielding dreadful telekinetic powers.
The story continues to pick up pace, constantly keeping us on the edge of the seat. The writers have truly done a great job balancing the right amount of suspense, action, and philosophical thinking.
But what I liked the most is that the story is told retrospectively by the protagonist herself, who reminisces about the events while talking to a doctor at a hospital. While this means we know her journey ends well, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was not quite right…
I won’t spoil the rest, but trust me – the game delivers just the right kind of experience for any fan of deep atmospheric adventure games. It also looks nice and doesn’t overcomplicate things with “moon logic” puzzles. Besides, there is a built-in walkthrough and minigames can be skipped entirely – so it’s impossible to really get stuck.
Monolith is a premium game without ads or iAPs that costs $7.99 on Android. It is undoubtedly one of the best adventure games released in recent years.

Bibots [Game Size: 300 MB] ($5.99)

Genre: Shooter / Roguelike – Offline
Orientation: Landscape
Required Attention: Full
tl;dr review by Solitalker:
Bibots is a challenging roguelike twin-stick shooter that cleverly sprinkles in bullet-hell elements to create a challenging but nicely balanced action gameplay experience.
Each run in Bibots has us roaming through dungeon floors while battling monsters and collecting weapons, consumable attacks, and various upgrades to customize our arsenal.
Whenever we level up, we get to pick a character upgrade, and one of three random abilities that players familiar with roguelikes will have an easy time building a strategy around.
Killing monsters and smashing open treasures also charges our psym meter, which lets us deploy a shield when it’s mostly charged, or transform into our Bibot when fully charged.
The titular Bibots are ancient mechanical creatures. Before starting a run, we choose one to take with us, and they each feature a distinct weapon, a unique ability, and a set of unlocks for its primary and secondary attacks that we earn throughout the run.
Unleashing our Bibot’s power can immediately turn the tide of battle – especially when facing a boss. But since the transformation only lasts a moment, it’s more of a tactical maneuver than a crutch.
The art is simple but very pleasing, and the pumping music is a great fit. While more customization options could be used, the touch controls are also good, and some Bluetooth controllers are supported.
The variety of weapons and abilities ensure that each run is kept fresh, and the sessions feel focused without overstaying their welcome.
Bibots is a $5.99 premium game.
For fans of twin-stick shooters or light bullet-hell games, Bibots is an easy recommendation that offers both challenge and depth while respecting both your time and wallet.

Bat to Bed [Game Size: 527 MB] (Free)

Genre: Arcade / Platform – Offline
Orientation: Portrait
Required Attention: Full
tl;dr review by Maya:
Bat to Bed is an incredibly punishing indie platformer where we play as a bat trying to exit a deep cave full of traps, obstacles, and enemies to avoid.
The cave extends far up vertically, and every time we tap the screen, our bat flaps its wings and moves diagonally upwards. And that’s what makes the game so challenging because the only way to move diagonally in the other direction is to first hit a wall, which makes our bat turn around.
Clever use of this simple control mechanic is necessary to navigate around other bats, ghosts, spikes, and more. The level design is clever but absolutely brutal, because hitting any of these obstacles drops us several meters down the cave.
As of this review, there are only two levels available, but they offer plenty of intensity. And unless you’re super hardcore, it’ll take quite a while to finish just one of them.
The pixel art is simple but cute, with smooth adorable animations that captured my heart. And by completing specific challenges, we can unlock cosmetic skins for our bat.
My main frustration with the game, apart from the intended difficulty, was the frequent ads that popped up when falling down after hitting an obstacle, and the banner constantly shown at the bottom.
Bat to Bed is free to play with ads that can be removed through a single $1.99 iAP. It is a promising title for any hardcore fan of punishing platforming games. Now I just hope we’ll get more levels.

Zoombinis – Logic Puzzle Game (Game Size: 1.14 GB] (Free)

Genre: Educational / Puzzle – Offline
Orientation: Landscape
Required Attention: Some
tl;dr review by Solitalker:
Zoombinis is a remake of a classic 1996 educational puzzle game where we must use logic and deductive reasoning to lead hundreds of small characters to their new homeland.
The titular Zoombinis have 5 options for hair, eyes, nose, and feet, and each of the 625 we’re tasked with saving has a unique combination of these features. We lead them in groups of 16 through 12 different minigames, solving logic puzzles based primarily around these four physical attributes.
In the simplest puzzles, we’re shown two bridges that we can only cross by placing a combination of Zoombinis with specific physical attributes on them, and it’s up to us to figure out those combinations.
Other puzzles may ask us to organize our Zoombinis into a specific order, or solve a code similar to Wordle or the Mastermind board game. We have some leeway when working through a puzzle, but too many mistakes lead to Zoombinis being lost and sent back on the map, leaving us to move forward with a smaller group.
Fans of the original game will feel right at home, as most changes are strictly visual. The original music and dialogue in all its 90s silliness is also included. And if you think the charming cartoonish art means the game is easy, you’ll likely be surprised by the complex and challenging later puzzles.
Zoombinis is free to try, after which the full game unlocks for $2.99.
For those looking for a nostalgia kick, this is an easy recommendation. And if you miss the joy of playing an educational game but aren’t a kid anymore, Zoombinis can scratch that itch in a way grown-up crosswords and word puzzles might not.
